August special offerings

August 29 – Sussex Christian School

From the Council:

As part of the planning for the new bi-denominational hymnal, it was noted that the RCA and CRC have differing versions of the Reformed Standards – the Belgic Confession, Heidelberg Catechism and Canons of Dort.  A small interdenominational committee was formed by Faith Alive to work toward a common translation of the confessions.

Upon review of the proposed translations, Synod 2010 mandated the committee to distribute an updated document that reflects the suggested changes of Synod to the churches by July 1, 2010 for response and comment in order to prepare a final report and recommendations to synod 2011.  The “Proposed Translation of the Three Reformed Standards” version can be downloaded from the “Synodical Resources” pages of the CRC website:

www.crcna.org/pages/synodical.cfm (below reports)

Please take time to consider these proposed translations over the coming weeks.  The council is asking members of our congregation to look at the proposed revisions, and get back to a member of council.  Be sure to respond with your feedback by September 4, 2010 so that we can include the appropriate feedback to the Synodical Study Committee.

Sussex Christian School is holding its 32nd Annual Fall Festival on Saturday, September 18 at the fairgrounds.  Space is still available for craft and antique vendors.  Please call Hope Clark at 973-875-5520 for more information.

WORSHIP WORKSHOP! Madison Avenue CRC is hosting a worship workshop on Saturday, September 11 from 9-1 at their church.  Any interested person is welcome to attend, with a special invitation to church leaders and youth.  Flyers are available at the back of the church or talk to Pastor Joel.

From the Van Dams!

The Van Dam family left for Port-au-Prince on Thursday.  They have truly experienced God’s gracious hand on their lives since the Haiti earthquake on January 12.

Prayer and Praise Items!

God’s protection during the quake itself

A home for Ruth and the kids to stay in for the past seven months

A new home in Haiti for them to move into

Howard being able to move everything from our old home to the new and setting up our generator and kitchen

Strength and help for Howard as he worked in Haiti

A good school experience and new friends for our children

Protection of our marriage through months of separation

The blessing of Ruth being able to spend the last two weeks of her mother’s life with her and being present when she passed on to glory

The farm and all its blessings (cousins, aunts and uncles, food, hard work and fresh air)

Time spent with Howard’s family in Chicago and Minnesota

Visit with friend, Eileen Wiersma and family less than a week before she passed away

The support and love shown to us by many of our church families and friends

The generous financial support for CRWRC, the relief efforts in Haiti, CRWM and our own personal support from people all over the world

The peace and relative stability in Haiti in the midst of this crisis

Progress of moving people into homes and offices even though the progress is slow

Thank you for your prayers for us during this time.  We do ask that you continue to pray.  There are again transitions for us as a family to go through – a new home, school beginning this past week, work, a busy schedule, and the list goes on.
